Wage growth – and spring negotiations – in focus as inflation hits
As inflation rises in Japan, wage increases become a more pressing issue for the country’s workforce and government officials, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s administration and the country’s main labor union urging companies to raise wages.
The Japanese Confederation of Trade Unions – better known as Rengo – unveiled its spring policy on Thursday shunto wage negotiations, bringing the overall wage increase target to around 5%, the highest level in 28 years.
