Ventura’s Director of Economic Development announces his departure

Ventura’s director of economic development resigned effective October 1.

Estelle Bussa, chief economic officer since May 2018, said she will be joining a tech company in Austin, Texas.

“This new business gives me the opportunity to work exclusively from home and devote more time to educating my two daughters. As a fourth generation Ventura native, it has been an honor to work in the city at over the past three years in a role that I’ve loved, ”Bussa said in a statement.

One of his accomplishments includes performing a multi-year rental contract with The commercial counter, a technology platform that connects advertisers with consumers, to occupy an underused city building, officials said.

Bussa also worked on the terms of a potential development agreement for the Specific Plan of Olivas Park. The 2019 plan is a planning document to develop the approximately 139-acre property known as the Olivas Park Drive Extension Area.

City Safe & Clean Director Meredith Hart will serve as Acting Director of Economic Development until the position is filled. Hart is a former deputy director of Downtown Ventura Partners, the region’s trade association.

A recruitment effort will be made to fill Bussa’s position.
