LA PLATA, Maryland – Charles County Administrator Mark Belton announces the appointment of Kelly Robertson-Slagle as Director of Economic Development. Robertson-Slagle will begin employment with the Charles County government on Monday, November 15

Robertson-Slagle is a strategic leader with over 25 years of experience in planning, organizing and implementing economic development functions from concept to completion. This includes working with new and expanding businesses and nurturing relationships between counties, the local business community, and economic development agencies at state, regional and federal levels.

“I am pleased to welcome a longtime resident of Charles County to this position. With her credentials and knowledge of the Southern Maryland region, I have no doubts that she will be an asset to the county’s economic development efforts, ”said County Administrator Mark Belton.

From 2017 to 2021, Robertson-Slagle was director of the Calvert County Economic Development Department. She started as a Business Retention Specialist in 2013, where she was appointed Director. In this role, she led all services and activities of the eleven-person department, including attracting increased capital investment, as well as expanding and diversifying employment opportunities, tourism development and development and agriculture marketing. Robertson-Slagle also oversaw industry recruiting activities including lead acquisition, package development and coordination, as well as relationship building with internal and external business development associations.

Robertson-Slagle said, “I am both honored and honored to return home and lead the dynamic and talented team of professionals at the Charles County Department Economic Development. I look forward to working with the business community, local developers, brokers and residents on development projects that complement existing businesses in the county and continue to distinguish this community as an exceptional place to live and work.

Prior to her employment with the Calvert County Economic Development Department, Robertson-Slagle was Director of the Maryland Small Business Development Center Network. She was responsible for the oversight, performance and compliance of the Maryland Southern Region Small Business Development Center network with College of Southern Maryland policies, procedures and strategic plan.

Robertson-Slagle holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters Certificate from the National Association of Counties High-Performance Leadership Academy. She is also a board member of the Maryland Economic Development Association, the Southern Maryland Regional Innovation Collaborative, the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland, the College of Southern Maryland Foundation, and the Cedar Point Federal Credit Union.
