President Buhari pledges to help South Sudan overcome economic challenges
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday that Nigeria is ready to extend a helping hand to South Sudan for the political and economic stability of the country.
President Buhari made this promise in Addis Ababa during a bilateral meeting with President Salva Kiir of South Sudan.
Buhari further assured Nigeria’s full support to make all necessary efforts to bring long-term stability and prosperity to the entire continent.
Nigeria will contribute as much as possible with its quota to the development of South Sudan. Trust us and ask us what we can do, ” Buhari told the South Sudanese leader.
He stressed that the need for cooperation among developing countries, said the Nigerian leader, with investments in education, improving economy and health care, things will surely improve. .
Regarding the situation in Guinea and Mali, President Buhari reiterated that African leaders must support efforts aimed at the return of democracy in the countries.
The president expressed concern that as long as Libya remains unstable, the proliferation of arms and the problems in the Sahel will continue.
In his remarks, President Kiir, who recognized Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa, appreciated the country’s efforts in the South Sudan liberation struggle.
He also commended the First Lady of Nigeria for helping educate many South Sudanese girls in the country.
In West Africa, ECOWAS intervenes immediately as soon as a country has a problem. This should be adopted in East and Central Africa, ” he said.
President Buhari and President Kiir were among several African leaders who attended the inauguration ceremony of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for a second five-year term.
