Passion for storytelling leads to book on socio-economic challenges

LIMPOPO – Muanalo Gloria Demana is proud to publish her book, Hidden Afflictions, which addresses the socio-economic challenges that many South Africans face on a daily basis.

Demana is from Vhufuli outside of Thohoyandou and said her passion for storytelling drove her to write this novel, in which she tackles issues such as family dynamics, mental health, addiction and human trafficking. humans, among others.

“The story is full of details that will captivate the reader. I have carefully curated the research and storytelling into a masterpiece that aims to teach lessons and entertain. The book should ideally be read by young adults who are on the journey of finding themselves. I use concrete examples of what is happening in modern South Africa to get my point across,” Demana said.

She said she received a good education from her late parents and only started writing last year.

“It’s great because I always wanted to be a storyteller. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I know I’m just getting started. Daily happenings in our communities, homes and the world at large motivate me to write books and raise awareness about important events in our society,” she said.

She told CV that her late father, Dr. Itani Patrick Demana, and actor John Kani were good storytellers and motivated her to become a storyteller as well.

“Writing has always been a safe space for me to be heard. I can express my feelings and tell others what I’ve encountered in this life. When I’m not feeling creative and find that I’m not don’t write as often as I should, I just tell myself that I can do anything,” she explained.

She added that her secret to success is to never give up and she thinks writing is the loudest way to speak. Demana also holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Venda.
